Best Flies for January 2024
Although it's been particular cold of late, the bitter wind and rain that started the year seems to be a recent memory keen to be forgotten; yet January has been pretty popular so far!
Klinkhammers have been by far the most popular choice, specifically those with our dropper rings. These rings allow them to be used as a buoyant dry fly, which serves as an excellent strike indicator for an attached nymph, enticing trout from the depths.
Apaches have also been a popular lure to entice fish into a lively chase. The Orange variety is highly visible and has been popular during the overcast days of January. We have also been experimenting with some Salmon hooked versions, so watch out for them in the future.
Snails have been particularly effective during January, when vegetation is scarce and trout are foraging for any available food sources. Their slow sink rate and naturalistic drift make them an excellent choice in slower-moving waters or still pools.
